Why Is My Secondary Hard Drive Acting All Weird ?

Here is my story. a few days ago my external hard drive fell to the floor (I don’t know why or how but it did). Luckily Its an enclosure so I took out the hard drive. Then last night I bought a power to SATA cable from Compusa and plugged it in my computer and everything works finely. All of a sudden, when I boot up my computer, Chkdsk keeps running. I try to cancel it by pressing keys, but It wont go out and yet still continues the countdown. I have a dual boot setup. I tried booting up with both XP and Windows 7. Now, XP has the chkdsk problem, but when trying to boot up Windows 7 with the hard drive, it hangs. I tried going into safe mode for both operating systems but still it kept hanging, but when i plug out the 250GB the computer works like a charm! I really wanted to ask this on yahoo before I do anything unnecessary. Yahoo, please help me, Im a DJ and I really dont want to lose 13 thousand songs. Is there anything I can do before I go on Ubuntu and delete some things on my hard drive ???
